The original mission statement of the RAB LGA; founded in 1970, reads:  

 

“The purpose of this association shall be to stimulate interest in and promote better golf among the ladies of the Runaway Bay Country Club; to provide a planned means of enjoying golf; to welcome new friends to the many pleasures of Runaway Bay, and to promote among all its players the true spirit of keen, friendly competition”. 

 

And our current mission statement:

 

“Our ladies golf association’s goal is to promote friendly competition and fellowship. We welcome all ladies to join our group, whether you are a golfer or not”. 

 

A little history about Runaway Bay and the RAB LGA. In the early 1960’s W. Roy Hastings and his wife Swampy had a dream with great vision; they wanted to transform the Hastings Ranch, approximately 4,000 acres situated along Lake Bridgeport, into a beautiful resort community. That dream become a reality and is now the city of Runaway Bay. By 1967 many amenities had been constructed and many more were under construction including the first nine holes of a proposed 27-hole golf course, the marina and the yacht club. By 1970 the second nine holes were completed and the Runaway Bay Ladies Golf Association was created!

            

Back then one had to be a member of the Country Club in order to be a member of the RAB LGA. In1998 the by-laws were changed to allow Associate (Social) Membership to any woman who was not a club member. In its first year there were 19 golfing members and 1 social member. By the second year the membership had increased to 37 members. Fast forward to today and the RAB LGA currently has 84 members, the most members on record, and nearly 30 of our members are golfers.

            

The RAB LGA has a playing season from March/April through November. Play days are Tuesdays and Thursdays and most Saturdays. Tee times vary depending on the time of year and weather. RAB LGA golf members enjoy reduced rates on greens fees and carts on our scheduled play days. We typically host a luncheon meeting monthly and evening socials with cocktails and dinner every few months. We also host a fabulous end of the year Christmas luncheon that is paid entirely by the LGA.
